My first flight (from LAX to London) arrived mid morning, so I had some time to explore. Thanks to the advice of a couple of more experienced friends who have spent time in London, I confidently set out on trains, the tube, and mostly on foot.
(I logged more than five miles just in the center city!) My wanderings included
Buckingham Palace and the Queen Victoria Square
Saint James Park,
Westminster Abbey,
the King's mounted bodyguard,
Big Ben of course,
and an afternoon tea in a British tea-house with tea and scones.
A couple of curiosities, too. I thought these phone booths were only on the movies. But I saw several on my trek.
Another good thing to know is that in England, cars drive on the opposite side of the road. If it weren’t for these warnings, I’m sure I would have stepped in front of a car or two at the crosswalk!
I ended the day with a train trip back to the airport on my way to Nantes, France and friends Keith and Carmen.

Yay! I'm so glad you had a great time in London! You definitely made the most of your afternoon layover!
